Franklin Pierce Tops Bentley in NE10 Quarterfinal

Rindge, N.H. – No. 2 seed Franklin Pierce defeated the No. 7 seed Bentley by a 5-1 score in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday night.

Franklin Pierce, which has now won five games in a row and improved its record to 13-3-1 on the season, started fast. Forward Yannik Felber scored in the 5th minute to give FPU a 1-0 lead, and the Ravens added three more goals over the next 20 minutes to open up a 4-0 lead in the 25th minute. Felber scored his second goal of the half in the 25th minute.

Felber converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute to complete his hat trick.

Bentley defended gamely for the final 25 minutes when they were forced to play a man down following a red card. Franklin Pierce only got off two shots in that span, both saved by keeper Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's).

Falcons senior Alec Foster (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) scored in the 90th minute to get them on the board. The goal was assisted by sophomore Michael Rowe (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip) with a cross into the box that that Foster headed in for the goal.

Maldarella finished the game with six saves.

Franklin Pierce advances on to the semifinals where they will play Saint Rose on Wednesday.
