Zeiner Picked as Northeast-10 Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Award Winner

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's senior center-back Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) has been picked as the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are chosen by a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives, and rewards excellence both on the field and in the classroom. The NE-10 names one award winner each year in each of the 23 sports it sponsors.

Zeiner, who was named the 2012 NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Conference for the third straight year, is an accountancy major with a 3.84 grade point average. As team captain, he led the Falcons to a 10-5-2 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the NE-10. He started all 17 matches and had two goals and two assists for six points from his center-back position.

Earlier in the offseason, Zeiner became the first player in program history to earn Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team honors. He was also named to the NSCAA Division II All-America third team and the Daktronics All-East Region first team among a number of other honors during the offseason.

The NE-10 also announced last week that Zeiner was one of 11 student-athletes selected to its men's soccer All-Academic team.
