Zeiner Named Second Team Capital One Academic All-America® by CoSIDA

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) has been selected to 2011 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Men's Soccer second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Zeiner was previously named to the Academic All-District 1 team in early November and is the first Academic All-America selection in program history. He's a junior accountancy major at Bentley and has a 3.80 cumulative GPA.

"Our program is very proud of Weston and his accomplishments on and off the field," said head coach Gary Crompton. "He has been a top player for us, a great leader on the pitch, and he is setting the bar in the classroom as well. There have been some quality student athletes through this program over the years and the fact that Weston is the first is a real tribute to his talents, his work ethic, his family and his teammates."

The recognition is another in an impressive list for Zeiner after he had one of the better seasons by a back in the country. In addition to anchoring Bentley's backline, he was among the team leaders in goals (4) and points (10) while helping the Falcons reach the Northeast-10 playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. He was previously named All-Conference for the second straight season and was selected to the Daktronics All-East region second team.

Zeiner is one of seven student-athletes from the NE-10 to be named to one of three Academic All-America teams, joining Tom Reilly, Vinny Papageorgiou and Victor Goncalves of Franklin Pierce, Robbie Sabadoz of Merrimack, Paul Templeton of Southern Connecticut and Jordan Branco of Southern New Hampshire. Mark Anderson of Barry University was picked as the Division II Academic All-America of the Year.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-II Academic All-America teams program.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.  Capital One has been the program's exclusive corporate sponsor since January 2011.
