Men’s Soccer Races Past Saint Anselm In The Rain, 4-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four first half goals was more than enough to give the Bentley men's soccer team a 4-1 victory over Saint Anselm on Wednesday in a match that was played mostly in pouring rain. The win improves Bentley's Northeast-10 record to 7-3 and 9-4-1 overall.

The win moves the Falcons into a fourth place tie with Le Moyne at 21 points, who lost at Merrimack 4-2 today. Bentley visits Merrimack on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. match.

The steady rain didn't seem to affect Bentley early on, as senior Eric Ulmer (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) gave them the best start possible with two goals in the opening six minutes. He netted his fourth goal of the season in the 5th minute, and added a second in the sixth minute.

The second goal came off a free kick just outside the penalty area. Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) passed to Tyler Kahn (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) at the top of the box, who then fed a pass to a cutting Ulmer for a shot that was slotted into the low left corner of the net.

The first career goal for senior Ryan Miamis (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) gave the Falcons a 3-nil lead after just 12 minutes. Ulmer had the assist on this goal, as Miamis took his pass in the top left corner of the penalty box and scored from 18 yards out.

Just before halftime freshman Louis Boisvert (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) made it 4-0 in the 42nd minute with his fifth goal of the season. Senior Matt Solomon (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) sent a cross in from deep on the left wing, almost near the touchline, and Boisvert headed it down and under the keeper's hands from inside the six yard box.

Senior Keesen Howe pulled one back for the Hawks in the 57th minute to make the score 4-1, but that was the last time the Hawks were heard from. Their record falls to 5-8-2 and 2-7-1 in the NE-10 with the loss.

The news got better for Bentley, as they learned after the match that they're ranked fourth in the east region in the NCAA's first Division II regional rankings of the season.
