Falcons Race Past Bloomfield 3-0 on Strength of Three First Half Goals

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the young 2011 campaign with a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Bloomfield College on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons put the game away early with three goals in the first half.

Freshman Louis Boisvert (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) continued the impressive start to his career, scoring his second goal in as many games to give Bentley a 1-0 advantage in the 21st minute.

With the ball in its own half Bloomfield attempted a clear, but senior Chris Gardner (Skillman, N.J./Hun School) kept the ball alive with a header to sophomore Cody Osgood (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School). Osgood then headed the ball to Boisvert in the box, who blasted a shot past keeper Daniel Hyde.

Just five minutes later Bentley doubled its lead on senior Matt Solomon's (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) goal. Junior Tyler Kahn (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg) played a through ball to Solomon on the right wing, who fired a shot from 15 yards out into the upper right corner.

Following Solomon's goal Bloomfield produced its best two chances of the match, with shots on goal by sophomore Claude Allen that both went just wide. Outside of those chances though, Bentley kept Bloomfield's offense in check, holding them to just six shots.

Boisvert nearly added a second in the 38th minute when his shot hit the post. The Falcons did make it 3-0 just a few moments later, when in the 41st minute junior Brennan DaCosta (San Diego, Calif./Westview) scored. Hyde spilled the rebound from a shot by sophomore David Corcoran (Canton, Mass./Canton), and DaCosta crashed the net untouched and chipped the rebound over Hyde.

Bloomfield was reduced to 10-men in the 51st minute when captain Terry Gibbs was shown a straight red card after an aggressive tackle.

The Falcons improve to 1-0-1 with the win, while the Deacons drop their second straight and fall to 0-2.

Bentley will now prepare for its Northeast-10 opener, which is Wednesday afternoon at home against Stonehill.
