Reynolds, Zeiner Named Men's Soccer Captains for 2011

WALTHAM, Mass. – Head coach Gary Crompton has announced that senior goalkeeper Matt Reynolds (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and junior Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) will serve as team captains for the 2011 season.

"Weston and Matt are outstanding ambassadors for our program. They both are top players and two of the hardest working members of our squad," Crompton said. "More importantly, they are outstanding students and conscientious scholars who both excel in the classroom as well."

Reynolds appeared in just three games last season and started one while backing up Northeast-10 Goalie of the Year Mike Nikiforov (Framingham, Mass./Framingham), but will be expected to step into the starting role next season.

Reynolds did post a 2-0 record, including a shutout of Bridgeport on Sept. 15 in a 1-0 Bentley win. He didn't allow a goal in his two other appearances and earned the win as the Falcons defeated NYIT 2-1 on Sept. 21.

Zeiner started 19 of 20 games, tied for the team lead in goals with four and tied for second in points with 10. He took home several postseason awards; a first team All-Conference selection at back, an All-Tournament nod and All-Academic honors.

In addition to the individual accolades, Zeiner was instrumental in Bentley's run to its first NE-10 Tournament final since 1994. He scored the winning goal in overtime against New Haven in the quarterfinals and netted the winning penalty kick against Southern Connecticut in the semifinals.

Additionally, the Falcons recently completed a successful offseason program during the spring that saw them play five friendly games; including games against Division I teams Providence and the University of Rhode Island.

"Our young players gained some valuable experience against some very good competition, and  I was able to try players in some different spots so that they will be able to adjust in the fall season if needed," Crompton said.

"I'm very excited about our team and the eight new recruits that will be joining us during preseason," Crompton continued. "We have been motivated this offseason by the disappointment of being overlooked for the NCAAs this past season, and we hope to build on our recent success and fight to eclipse our very successful 2010 campaign."
