Bentley Misses NCAA Division II Tournament Bid

Waltham, Mass. - One of the most successful Bentley University men's soccer seasons in years came to a disappointing end Monday night when the Falcons didn't hear their name called when the field for the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships was announced.

The Falcons finish the year with a record of 11-3-6, their most wins since 2003, and they finished third in the Northeast-10 with a record of 7-1-5. They advanced to the NE-10 Tournament championship game for the first time since 1994 with a pair of dramatic wins, besting New Haven 1-0 in overtime and Southern Connecticut on penalty kicks. Two players, graduate student goalie Mike Nikiforov (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and sophomore back Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) were named first team All-Conference.

The six teams from Super Region 1 to be selected features three NE-10 teams, including the champions Franklin Pierce. Southern New Hampshire and Southern Connecticut are the other two squads. Two schools from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Bloomfield and Dominican, were selected, and Dowling from the East Coast Conference was selected.
