Mohammadi’s Late Goal Lifts Bentley Past Queens (N.Y.) 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Amon Mohammadi (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute as the Bentley University men's soccer team topped Queens (N.Y.) 1-0 in the season-opening game for both squads.

Bentley was awarded a throw-in as time was winding down in Queens' end. Freshman Jordan Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) took the throw and threw into the box, allowing Mohammadi to run onto the ball and head it past Knights goalie Demetrios Tourous for the win.

Both teams had chances in the second half to find the elusive goal. Senior Aaron Hopkins (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and sophomore Weston Zeiner (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) teamed on a give-and-go that resulted in Hopkins' shot going just wide right in the 54th minute.

Danny Stoker had Queens' best chance in the 66th minute, winning possession of the ball on the right post and whistling a shot across the goal line that went wide. Bentley's Eric Ulmer (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) had a great chance in the 69th minute denied by Tourous.

The best scoring opportunity of the first half went to Queens off a corner kick. Daniel Ospina took the kick and Brian Buckmire got a head on it, requiring Bentley goalie Mike Nikiforov (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) to make a diving save to his left. Chances in the first half were sparse, as there were just six total shots.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday as the host New Haven for their Northeast-10 opener.
