Bentley Falls to Le Moyne in NE10 Finals 12-8

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Bentley's run in the Northeast-10 Men's Lacrosse Championship came to an end in the finals as No. 1 nationally ranked Le Moyne defeated the Falcons 12-8 on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons, ranked No. 10 nationally, fell to 10-5 on the season. The Dolphins improved to 16-0 in claiming the 2023 NE10 championship.

Bentley was ranked 6th in the NCAA North region rankings that came out this week. The NCAA selection show is on Sunday at 7:30 PM with the top six teams in the North and South regions earning a bid.

The Falcons led 3-1 after the 1st quarter. The goals all came in a span of just over three minutes, starting with David Gagnon (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) scoring at the 10:51 mark. Hunter Smith (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scored at 9:04 and Conor Segreti (Darnestown, Md./St. John's) added a tally at the 7:28 mark.

Bentley's defense meanwhile limited the Dolphins to just seven shots in the first quarter and Le Moyne turned the ball over 10 minutes in the first 15 minutes.

The Falcons extended their lead to 4-1 when Gagnon scored at the 14:23 mark of the 2nd quarter.

But after that goal, Le Moyne went on an 8-1 run to close the quarter to lead 9-5 at halftime.

Gagnon scored at 6:16 of the 2nd quarter for a first half hat trick.

The Dolphins scored all three goals of the 3rd quarter to lead 12-5 going into the 4th quarter. Attacker Joey Pezzimenti had two of those goals, as part of a game-high six goals for him.

Bentley blanked the Dolphins 3-0 in the 4th quarter but did not have enough time to close the gap fully. Nathan Alviti (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored at the 10:36 mark, and Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham-Monson) added goals at 8:18 and 6:44 to make the score 12-8. But neither team scored again.

Falcons goalie Jackson Tinsley (Beverly Hills, Mich.) and freshman midfielder Kyle Piersiak (Needham, Mass./Needham) were named named to the All-Championship team.
