Late Flourish Leads No. 15 Bentley to 13-11 Road Win over No. 2 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – No. 15 ranked Bentley scored the game's final three goals en route to knocking off No. 2 ranked Adelphi by a 13-11 score on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons improved to 8-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Northeast-10, and they handed the previously unbeaten Panthers their first loss of the season. Their records go to 14-1 and 8-1 NE10.

Bentley trailed 11-10 after Adelphi's Kyle Lewis scored at the 6:46 mark of the 4th quarter. But Adelphi didn't score again from that point and the Falcons reeled off three straight goals.

The teams traded possessions after Lewis' goal, and on Bentley's next possession senior Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scored at the 4:31 mark to tie the game 11-11.

Cam Bartolomeo (Meriden, Conn./Xavier) won the ensuing faceoff and a shot by Nathan Alviti (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) on the possession was saved by Panthers goalie Dylan Renner. Adelphi cleared and that led to a shot by Logan Tucker that was denied by Falcons goalie Jackson Tinsley (Beverly Hills, Mich.), just one of his 14 saves on the day.

Bentley cleared and that led to a goal by Garrett Witt (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) at 1:56 to give Bentley the lead at 12-11.

Bartolomeo won the next faceoff and Bentley transitioned down the field, which led to a goal by Makhatadze with 44 seconds left for a 13-11 lead.

Adelphi took a penalty on Makhatadze's goal which put them a man-down for the rest of the game. They had possession after the faceoff, but Tinsley caused a turnover and secured the ground ball with 22 seconds left to essentially seal the game.

The Falcons started fast in this game and led 4-1 after the first quarter. Nick McGovern (Bow, N.H./Bishop Guertin) had two goals and defenseman Bryan Powers (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) chipped in with a goal as well.

Adelphi outscored Bentley 3-0 in the 2nd quarter and the game was tied 4-4 at halftime.

The third quarter was back and forth with Bentley outscoring the Panthers 5-3. Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham-Monson) had two goals and Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) had a goal and an assist to hit 100 career points.

Bentley led 9-7 at the start of the 4th quarter, but the lead was reduced to one goal when Adelphi's Joe Duchnowski scored at the 13:49 mark. Bentley though responded on a goal by Witt, his second of three goals, to take a 10-8 lead.

That preceded Adelphi's 3-0 run, which preceded Bentley's 3-0 run to win the game.

Tinsley's 14 saves matched his career-high.
