WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 11 ranked Saint Anselm dealt No. 19 Bentley its first NE10 defeat of the season, 11-8 on Saturday night on Senior Night.
Bentley trailed just 8-7 going into the 4th quarter after David Gagnon (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) scored with six seconds left in the 3rd frame.
But Saint Anslem outscored Bentley 3-1 in the final 15 minutes. The Hawks received goals from Jack Andrews at the 13:42 mark of the 4th, and Noah Larsen at 8:32 to take a 10-7 lead.
The Falcons got back to within two goals at 5:58 with a goal by Nick McGovern (Bow, N.H./Bishop Guertin), assisted by Luke Jaber Milton, Mass./BC High) to make the score 10-8.
However the Hawks scored the all-important next goal, off the stick of Joe Lombardi, to go ahead 11-8 with 3:32 remaining. Bentley only had one more possession the rest of the game and the Hawks hung on for the win.
Garrett Witt (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) had a hat trick for the Falcons, while Cam Bartolomeo (Meriden, Conn./Xavier) went 14-22 in the faceoff circle, with a game-high six ground balls.
Bentley (4-3, 3-1 NE10) will be back in action on Wednesday night to host AIC.
