Big 2nd Half Propels Bentley Past Franklin Pierce 17-9

RINDGE, N.H. – Bentley outscored Franklin Pierce 10-3 in the 2nd half on its way to a 17-9 victory at Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the team's record to 2-0 in the Northeast-10 and to 3-2 overall.

As the weather deteriorated from drizzly in the 1st half to snow in the 2nd half the Falcons got stronger and put the game away.

Junior Cam Bartolomeo (Meriden, Conn./Xavier) played a big part in the win as he dominated in the faceoff circle to the tune of 21-28 and collected a career-high 17 ground balls.

The 10-3 score of the 2nd half was part of a larger run that saw Bentley score 13 of the final 17 goals of the game. They scored six goals in a row from the 4:13 mark of the 2nd quarter to the 8:43 mark of the 3rd quarter.

Franklin Pierce scored the game's first three goals to take an early lead at the midway point of the 1st quarter. But the Falcons quickly erased that deficit with three straight man-up goals, from three different players.

The Ravens led 6-5 at the 5:48 mark of the 2nd quarter after a goal by Joe Nutting, but goals by Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) and Garrett Witt (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) gave Bentley a 7-6 lead at the break.

Bentley then started the 3rd quarter hot with three goals in the opening three-plus minutes. Jaber scored the first goal, followed by two straight from Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham-Monson).

Leading 12-8 at the start of the 4th quarter, Bentley began to put the game away with two goals in 18 seconds from Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Thorn-Guillaro.

After an FPU goal by Ethan Cote at the 11:22 mark made the score 14-9, but Jaber scored three straight goals to close the contest out.

Jaber finished with six goals and eight points, both career-highs. Thorn-Guillaro also had a career-high four goals.

The team went 6-10 in man-up situations and 4-4 in the first quarter.

Bentley will look to make it 3-0 in the NE10 when they visit Assumption on Tuesday night.
