Bentley Hangs Tough but Falls to No. 2 Mercy, 14-12

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Bentley hung tough but fell to No. 2 ranked Mercy 14-12 on the road on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game.

The Mavericks improved to 7-1 on the season with their 5th straight win. The Falcons, who received votes in this week's USILA poll, fell to 2-2.

Bentley trailed 14-9 after a Mercy goal at 10:01 of the 4th quarter, but kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the game as they fought back to close the gap.

Senior Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) scored at the 7:45 mark, then found the back of the net again at 5:09 to make it 14-11.

After the team's traded possessions without a goal, Bentley's Hunter Smith (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scored with 1:55 remaining to cut the deficit to 14-12.

Mercy though won the ensuring faceoff and a Bentley penalty allowed them to drain the clock until a shot with 38 seconds left was saved by Jackson Tinsley (Beverly Hills, Mich.).

Bentley cleared and called a timeout with 12 seconds but wasn't able to get a shot off as Mercy held on for the win.

The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter as Bentley jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Mercy led 7-5 at halftime. Sophomore David Gagnon (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) had two of Bentley's goals in the first half.

Mercy though got the better of the 3rd quarter and outscored Bentley 5-3.

Senior Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenedehowa) had three goals for Bentley in the 2nd half.

Andrew Granzier (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) led the team with two caused turnovers.
