No. 4 Adelphi Uses 4th Quarter Run to Top No. 18 Bentley, 18-11

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 4 ranked Adelphi pulled away from Bentley in the 4th quarter to post an 18-11 victory over the No. 18 ranked Falcons on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons, who celebrated its Class of 2022 of Senior Day prior to the game, hung tough with the Panthers, who improved to 9-0 in the NE10 and 12-1 overall.

The Falcons dropped to 6-5 overall and 5-4 NE10. The team though has still clinched a NE10 playoff spot and can be the No. 5 seed with a win over Southern New Hampshire in the regular season finale on Tuesday night.

Bentley was within 13-10 after they scored the final two goals of the 3rd quarter. Senior Ryan Birch (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored with 1:22 remaining, then following a faceoff win by Jake Tyska (Natick, Mass./Wayland), junior Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) scored his 26th goal of the season with 57 seconds left.

Adelphi though scored twice in the opening three-plus minutes of the 4th quarter to take a 15-10 lead. The goals came by James Hall at the 14:08 mark and Brian Harinski at 11:27.

Birch scored again for Bentley, his 3rd of the game and 12th of the season, at the 9:29 mark to make it a 15-11 game. But that was the last time the Falcons scored, and the Panthers netted the game's final three goals.

Bentley trailed 4-1 in the early going, but rallied to tie the game after a man-up goal by senior Ben Baldasaro (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) at 9:23 of the 2nd quarter, with the assist by Matty O'Brien (Rockland, Mass./Rockland)

Adelphi then used a 7-0 run that spanned the rest of the 2nd quarter and into the 3rd quarter to open up a 12-5 lead.

But Bentley again fought back, with a 5-1 run over the remainder of the 3rd quarter. A 3-0 run got it started, with the goals by Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), Jaber and Clay Moseman (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow). The goal by Moseman, his 13th of the year, made it 12-8 at 3:20 of the 3rd quarter.

An Adelphi goal by Jason Rebaudo broke the run, before the goals by Birch and Jaber made 13-10 going into the 4th quarter.

Adelphi's Joseph Duchnowski had a game high nine points, on six goals and three assists.
