No. 16 Bentley Drops Heartbreaker to No. 12 Saint Anselm 14-13

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm's Nick Larsen scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds remaining to give the No. 12 ranked Hawks a 14-13 victory over No. 16 ranked Bentley on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat was Bentley's first of the season in NE10 play after they won their first four to start the season.

Bentley's Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) scored a tying goal with 2:16 remaining in the game to knot it up 13-13.

Bentley's Cam Bartolomeo (Meriden, Conn./Xavier) won the ensuing faceoff to give them possession. Ben Baldasaro (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) had a shot blocked but Bentley retained possession and called a timeout with 1:05 remaining.

After the timeout another shot by Baldasaro was saved by Hawks goalie CJ Hart. Saint Anselm then successfully cleared and called a timeout with 27 seconds left. Out of the timeout, Larsen scored with eight seconds remaining to give them the 14-13 lead.

Bartolomeo again won the ensuing face-off, but Bentley did not have enough time to create a scoring chance.

Bentley led 10-6 at halftime behind a balanced attack that featured eight different goal scorers. Jaber and Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) each had two goals and Falcons goalie Keaton Roarick (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) had seven saves.

But after Bentley's Clay Moseman (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) scored a man-up goal nine seconds into the 3rd quarter, Saint Anselm went on a 5-0 run in a span of about three minutes to tie the game 11-11 with just over 9:00 remaining in the quarter.

Neither team scored again until a man-up goal by Baldasaro at 11:05 of the 4th quarter gave the Falcons a 12-11 lead.

After a stretch of about five minutes without a goal, Saint Anselm scored twice in a span of 1:19 to go in front 13-12. The score remained that way until Jaber's tying goal with 2:16 left.

Bentley had 35 shots on goal, which forced Hart into 22 saves. The Hawks had 29 shots on goal and Roarick made 15.

The Falcons (5-2, 4-1 NE10) will look to bounce back on Wednesday night at AIC.
