Bentley Hangs Tough but Falls to No. 11 Pace 14-10

Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Bentley University men's lacrosse put in a strong effort against No. 11 ranked Pace, but the Setters pulled away in the 4th quarter for a 14-10 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon.

Bentley led it 9-8 after three quarters. A goal by junior Ryan Birch (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) with 1:15 left in the quarter broke an 8-8 tie and put the Falcons in front.

Falcons goalie Keaton Roarick (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) had 11 saves through the first three quarters.

The Setters though started the 4th quarter strong. They scored three goals in the first four-plus minutes to take an 11-9 lead.

Falcons junior Ben Baldasaro (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) pulled one back for the visitors at the 9:47 mark, with senior Dominick Cioffi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) on the assist, to make it an 11-10 game. The goal was Baldasaro's 4th of the game, a team high and a career high for the midfielder.

Just over a minute later though, Pace's Tim Cairo scored at the 8:38 mark to put them back in front by two goals. A little over a minute after that goal, sophomore Anthony Caputo scored his 3rd goal of the afternoon to give Pace a 13-10 lead.

The teams traded goals in a high scoring 1st quarter, which Pace led 4-3 at the end of. Baldasaro, Cioffi and Joey Tesoriero (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills) had the goals for the Falcons.

In the 2nd quarter the Falcons used a 3-0 run that spanned over eight minutes to erase a 6-3 deficit. Senior Kris Campbell (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) scored consecutive goals and Baldasaro netted the final goal of the run with 1:10 left in the half.

The Falcons defense kept Pace off the scoreboard for more than 12 minutes during the run.

In the 3rd quarter, Matty O'Brien (Rockland, Mass./Rockland), Baldasaro and Birch scored for Bentley, as they led 9-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Senior Matt Mulcahy (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) led the Bentley defense with three caused turnovers.

The Falcons are scheduled to play next on Saturday at home at 1:00 pm, when they take on Assumption.
