Bentley Tops Saint Anselm 11-8

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley defeated Saint Anselm by an 11-8 score Tuesday night in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse action. The Falcons have won two straight and improve their records to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10.

Bentley spread the offense around as eight different players found the back of the net. Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) and Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glen) each had two goals.

Bentley dominated through three quarters. They led 5-1 after the first quarter, 8-4 at halftime and outshot the Hawks 30-12 in the opening 30 minutes. They then outscored the visitors 3-0 in the third quarter to lead 11-4 going into the final 15 minutes.

David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Mike Giorgetti (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) opened the scoring in the first quarter with goals just 51 seconds apart. Saint Anselm's Alex Pacitti got one back at the 9:23 mark, but Bentley closed the quarter with goals from Brigham, Hinds and DiRaimo over the final 4:00 lead 5-1 after the first quarter.

Brigham and DiRaimo each scored in the first 3:14 of the second quarter, and Hinds' second of the game came in between the first of three goals for Saint Anselm attacker Ben Warren. Hinds' goal gave the Falcons an 8-2 lead. The Hawks closed out the first half with two goals in the final 1:58.

In the third quarter, Bentley received goals from Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading), Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) and Brady Palmer (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy).

Junior goalie Daniel Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) made 12 saves to record his third win of the season.

The Falcons continue their home stand on Saturday when they host Adelphi for a 4:00 pm game.
