Bentley Set to Open 2015 Season Sunday at New York Tech

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's lacrosse team opens up its 2015 season on Sunday against New York Tech of the East Coast Conference at 1:00 pm. The contest was originally set to be played in Waltham, but the venue was shifted due to Bentley's snow covered field.

The Falcons start their season with two straight non-conference games against ECC teams. First at NYIT, followed by a first ever meeting against the University of the District of Columbia on March 11, set to be played in the nation's capital.

Bentley will then turn its attention to the competitive Northeast-10 Conference, where they were picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Conference play gets started on March 14 at Franklin Pierce, before three straight home games. The home-opener is set for March 21 against Saint Rose, followed by home games against Saint Anselm March 24 and Adelphi March 28. That game against the Panthers will be a rematch of last season's Northeast-10 Semifinal game.

The month of April will see the Falcons host Southern New Hampshire April 7 in a rematch of last season's NE-10 first round game, which Bentley won 8-7. Trailing 7-4 entering the fourth quarter, Bentley ripped off four unanswered goals for a memorable comeback victory. Bentley will also visit Merrimack on April 15 and Le Moyne April 18 that month.

After going 7-4 in the 2014 NE-10 regular season, the Falcons enter this season with much the same squad. Seven of the top-10 scorers return, led by senior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy), who led the team in goals (25) and points (35). Midfielder and Preseason All-New England selection Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) returns as well after notching 17 goals and 10 assists. Last season's freshmen standouts John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) will look to continue making an impact in their second seasons. Wheeler was named to the 2014 NE-10 All-Rookie team after recording 10 goals and 11 assists, while Phelps poured in 17 goals.

Defensively, Bentley features standout midfielder T.A. Demoulas (Lowell, Mass./Middlesex School). Demoulas, who was named All-New England last season after leading the team in ground balls (58) and causing 15 turnovers, was drafted by Major League Lacrosse's Boston Cannons in the offseason. Head coach Jim Murphy, entering his 23rd season at the helm and the reigning NE-10 Coach of the Year, will also welcome back two defensemen that started at least 10 games in 2014; senior Connor Raffety (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), who started all 15 games and was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team, and sophomore Connor Holbrook (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan), who started 10 games.

In the face-off circle, Murphy welcomes back his two primary players from last season, junior Joey Lefebvre (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) and sophomore Derek Osbahr (Nahant, Mass./St. John's Prep).

The 2015 Falcons will be captained by Demoulas, Dimond and senior midfielder Doug Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island).
