Bentley Set to Take on Adelphi in Northeast-10 Semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – After a dramatic 8-7 first round win over Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday night, the Bentley men's lacrosse team will take on Adelphi in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championships on Friday.

The action between the top-seeded Panthers and fourth-seeded Falcons gets underway at 4:00 pm at Adelphi's Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y. Links to free live video and live stats can be found at Bentleyfalcons.com.

These two teams met less than a week ago on Long Island for the regular season finale for both squads. Adelphi (14-1) came into the game ranked No. 1 in Division II, but Bentley (8-6) gave them all they could handle in the first half, trailing just 6-4 at halftime. Midfielder Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) had two first quarter goals for Bentley, and David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Nick Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) scored in the second quarter.

But Adelphi scored eight unanswered goals in the second half, including six straight in the third quarter, to pull away for a 15-6 victory. That completed an unbeaten NE-10 regular season for the Panthers, giving them the top-seed for the NE-10 Championships and a bye to the semifinals.

The Falcons staged a huge fourth quarter comeback on Tuesday against Southern New Hampshire to set this game up, rallying from 7-4 down with four unanswered goals. Junior midfielder Brendan Murphy (Wilmington, Mass./Middlesex School) had two goals in the quarter, including the game-winner with 3:07 left.

Both of these teams were well represented on the Northeast-10 All-Conference teams. The Falcons had five honorees, including Goalie of the Year and first team All-Conference pick Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph). The Panthers had six first team All-Conference selections and the Player of the Year in sophomore attacker Salvatore Tuttle.

Bentley and Adelphi have met once before in the postseason, a 6-4 Panthers win in the 2012 first round.

The winner of this game will meet the winner of Friday's other semifinal between second-seeded Le Moyne and third-seeded Merrimack. The Dolphins received a bye to the semis bye finishing second in the regular season, while Merrimack defeated Saint Anselm 14-6 in the first round.

The championship game will take place on Sunday at the highest remaining seed.
