Robert Morris Upsets Bentley 4-3 in Overtime in First Round of AHA Postseason

WATLHAM, Mass. – Robert Morris' Cameron Garvey scored with 10.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Colonials a 4-3 upset win over Bentley in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Postseason.

The Falcons had battled back from 3-1 down in the 3rd period on goals by Garrett Horsager and Nick Bochen in front of a packed Top Shelf student section.

Horsager's goal came after a shot on goal by Chase Davis was saved RMU goalie Chad Veltri, but Horsager crashed the net and poked home the rebound at 4:53 to cut the deficit to 3-2.

At the 9:12 mark a tripping penalty was called on RMU's McKay Hayes to set Bentley up with a power play opportunity.

Just 12 seconds into the power play, Bochen's goal on a shot from just above the left circle sent the Top Shelf into a frenzy and tied the score 3-3 at 9:24.

Neither squad was able to score over the remaining 10-plus minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime.

The Falcons penalty kill unit came up with a successful kill early in OT. Both teams had quality scoring chances in OT but both Veltri and Bentley's Connor Hasley came up with big saves.

Garvey's goal came on a wraparound on the far post just before the end of the first OT period to send the Colonials to the quarterfinals next weekend.

Hasley finished the night with 28 saves and Veltri 29 saves.

The Falcons' season comes to an end with a 16-17-2 record.
