Bentley Tops Sacred Heart in Shootout, Will Host Robert Morris in Postseason Next Saturday Night

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Falcons tied Sacred Heart 2-2 on Saturday night before winning the shootout. That saw Bentley finish the regular season 6th in the Atlantic Hockey standings and sets up a first round postseason game against Robert Morris next Saturday night at Bentley Arena at 7:00 PM.

The Falcons finished the regular season with a 12-12-2 conference record and 16-16-2 overall. They will go into the postseason unbeaten in their last four games and in five of the last six.

Bentley clawed back from a 2-0 deficit with goals by Kellan Hjartarson in the 2nd period and Ryan Upson in the 3rd period.

Hjartarson's goal came 40 seconds into the 2nd period and came off a rebound from a shot by Stephen Castagna that was initially saved by SHU's Justin Robbins.

The deficit stayed at 2-1 until Upson's 6th goal of the year at 12:13 of the 3rd tied the score. Ryan Mansfield won an offensive zone faceoff to get it started and played the puck to A.J. Hodges. Hodges passed the puck back to Nick Bochen who drove in on net and swept a pass across the slot to Upson, who rifled a one-timer past Robbins' glove for the goal.

Neither team scored in the remainder of regulation or in the 3-on-3 overtime to send the game to a shootout.

Bentley went first and Matt Thomson was the selection and he gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with a nice backhander over Robbins. Next up Hasley denied SHU's Kevin Lombardi's backhand attempt with a pad save. In the second round Upson was denied by Robbins and Hasley stopped Daniel Ebrahim to keep the Falcons in front 1-0.

That set Mansfield up for a chance to win it, which he did with a deke move and shot past Robbins' stick. It was the second straight shootout that Mansfield clinched for the Falcons after doing the same against Canisius on Feb. 10.

Hasley finished the night with 22 saves.

Bentley played Robert Morris on the road back in late October and the teams split the series.
