Five Different Goal Scorers Lift Falcons in 5-1 Victory over Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Five different players scored and Connor Hasley made 30 saves as Bentley won at Holy Cross 5-1 on Thursday night in the penultimate game of the regular season.

The win moved the Falcons up to fourth in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 39 points from a 12-12-1 record and snapped Holy Cross' seven game winning streak. They close out the regular season on Saturday night at home against Sacred Heart and can clinch a first round bye with a win and some help.

After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Bentley grabbed a 1-0 lead on Stephen Castagna's sixth goal of the season 42 seconds into the 2nd period. The goal was setup by a spectacular pass from Ethan Leyh above the faceoff circle to Castagna down low who tipped the puck in past Jason Grande.

Holy Cross tied the game on a power play goal by Liam McLinskey at the 3:30 mark, which snapped a streak of 19 straight successful penalty kills by the Falcons.

But after McLinskey's goal it was all Falcons.

Kellan Hjartarson broke the tie at the 14:48 mark of the 2nd with a power play goal, following a strong effort in front of the net to get the puck past Grande after two initial saves by the goaltender. The goal was Hjartarson's 8th of the season.

Just before the period ended, defensemen Sam Duerr lasered in a shot from inside the blue line for his 6th goal of the year to give Bentley a 3-1 advantage heading into the final 20.

Chase Davis scored unassisted at 11:37 for his 8th of the year to make it 4-1. And in the final minute defenseman Ryan Nause scored a 5-on-3 power play goal for his first tally of the campaign.

Hasley meanwhile turned away 30 shots for his 3rd win in a row and 10th of the season.
