Falcons Blank Canisius 3-0; Set Team Single Season Record for Shutouts

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley won at Canisius 3-0 on Friday night as Connor Hasley, who was playing near his hometown of North Tonawanda, posted his third shutout of the season.

It's the fifth shutout as a team for the Falcons this season, which breaks the program record of four from the 2002-03 season. Nicholas Grabko has two shutouts this season so far.

Hasley matched his season high with 32 saves, which came against Maine on Dec. 9. He also helped the Falcons penalty kill go 5-5 on the night.

Freshman Ryan Mansfield scored two goals and captain Ethan Leyh notched his 12th of the season in the first period.

Leyh's goal was on the power play at 15:51 and started with defenseman Sam Duerr with the puck near the blue line. He fed a short pass to A.J. Hodges at the top of the left circle, who then slid a pass across the ice to Leyh, who whipped a shot over the stick of Canisius' Ethan Robertson for the goal.

Just over two minutes later Mansfield gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. A shot on goal by defenseman Colton Cameron from the point was saved, but Mansfield was first to the rebound and put it past Robertson.

Mansfield then gave Bentley a 3-0 lead with his 7th goal of the season 2:02 into the 2nd period. Arlo Merritt won a defensive zone faceoff and the puck found its way to Mansfield on the left wing. He sped into the offensive zone for a two-on-one, and his decision to shoot was a good one as he beat Robertson to the glove side for the goal with a shot from the edge of the left circle.

Bentley will now go for the series sweep when these teams play on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
