Falcons Suffer Tough Defeat to No. 19 RIT in Overtime, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT's Elijah Gonsalves scored 1:15 into overtime to give the No. 19 ranked Tigers a 2-1 victory over Bentley on Saturday.

The goal gave RIT two points in the Atlantic Hockey standings for an overtime win, while the Falcons come away with one point.

After the teams were locked in a 0-0 tie for almost 45 minutes, the Falcons got the breakthrough on a power play goal by Ethan Leyh at 4:39 of the 3rd period.

The Falcons worked the puck around with A.J. Hodges possessing it below the faceoff dots and feeding Leyh at the point. The captain had lots of space to work with an uncorked a slap shot that beat Tigers goalie Tommy Scarfone to the glove side for his 8th of the season.

Meanwhile Falcons goalie Nicholas Grabko was working on a shutout and had 21 saves when Leyh scored.

Grabko and the Falcons killed off two RIT power plays in the 3rd period. The second power play ended with 1:52 remaining in regulation to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Offensive zone pressure by the Falcons prevented RIT from pulling Scarfone until there was 48 seconds left on the clock. But on their next chance in the offensive end the Tigers finally got one past Grabko off the stick of Aiden Hansen-Bukata to tie the game 1-1.

In overtime, an unlucky bounce off a Falcons stick led to the goal being credited to Gonsalves to give RIT the win.

Grabko finished the night with 30 saves and Scarfone made 25 saves.
