Two Goals by Davis and Hasley’s Shutout Help Give Bentley 4-0 Win Over Mercyhurst

WALTHAM, Mass. – Chase Davis scored two goals and Connor Hasley posted his second shutout of the season in Bentley's 4-0 win over Mercyhurst on Friday night.

Davis scored in the first and third periods as the Falcons controlled play throughout the 60 minutes. The first three goals Bentley scored were all on the power play. Defenseman Garrett Horsager scored on the PP in the 3rd period.

The Falcons outshot the Lakers 42-19 in earning their fourth shutout as a team of the season.

Though the final score looked like a comfortable win, Bentley didn't put the game away until past the midway point of the 3rd period.

Davis' 5th goal of the season at 10:12 of the first period gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Josh Latta and Jonathan Bendorf with some sharp passing from Bendorf up top to Latta in the corner below the dot. Davis then finished with a one-timer past Lakers goalie Owen Say.

The penalty kill came up big in the second period in killing off an extended 5-on-3 powerplay for the Lakers midway through the period. The two-man advantage lasted 41 seconds but Bentley did not allow a shot on goal as they maintained the 1-0 lead.

The Falcons broke through with the second goal in the third period. Defenseman Garrett Horsager scored on the power play at the 5:53 mark for his first NCAA goal. The shot was a blast from the right point and was assisted by Nick Bochen and Latta.

Davis' second goal of the night came on the power play at the 10:42 mark of the third frame for a 3-0 Falcons lead. Latta fed a pass to Bendorf below the goal line, who then quickly passed to Davis in front. Davis' initial shot was saved but he kept at it and scored off the rebound for his sixth of the season.

The assist was Latta's third of the night and Bendorf's second.

Ethan Leyh then scored an empty net goal with 1:12 remaining for the fourth goal of the evening.

Bentley will go for the sweep in the second game of the series on Saturday at 4:05 PM.
