NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Bentley hockey team held a 3-1 lead at Merrimack, but the Warriors scored three unanswered goals for a 4-3 non-conference win over Falcons Saturday evening.
The Warriors (6-6-1) took a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the game. However, two minutes later, Bentley went on the powerplay for the first time in the game. During the man-advantage, Nik Armstrong-Kingkade was unmarked in front of the goal, and he tipped in a shot from the point by Ethan Leyh.
Armstrong-Kingkade's team-leading sixth goal of the season was first of three consecutive goals by the Falcons.
Midway through the opening period, Matt Thomson won a faceoff to the left of Merrimack's goal. Garrett Horsager put a shot on goal that was blocked, but Chase Davis corralled the rebound.
From close range, Davis lifted the puck to the top shelf, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Bentley carried that advantage into the first intermission.
The Falcons went up 3-1 early in the second period when Thomson punched in a rebound opportunity off a shot taken by Leyh from the right side. It was Thomson's first goal of the season.
Merrimack tied the game with consecutive goals within a two-minute span midway through the second period. The Warriors netted the game-winner with less than one minute left in the second.
The Falcons return to Atlantic Hockey action when they hop a flight to Colorado next week for two games at Air Force, Dec. 1-2.
