Bentley Defeats Army West Point 5-4 in Overtime in Season Finale

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) scored his second goal of the night 22 seconds into overtime to give Bentley a 5-4 overtime win over Army West Point on Saturday in the final game of the season.

Harrison Scott (San Jose, Calif.) won an offensive zone faceoff to set up the winning goal. He played the puck back to defenseman Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C.) on the point. Bochen skated around the Army defense and as he approached the net front he fed a centering pass to Niemo in front, who beat Black Knights goalie Gavin Abric to the spot for the goal.

Bentley earns two points for the overtime win.

Graduate student Dylan Pitera (Culver, Indiana) scored two goals in his final NCAA game. His first of the night at 17:30 of the 2nd period tied the score 3-3. The shot came from a tough angle below the right faceoff dot.

He scored again at 2:50 of the 3rd period to give the Falcons a 4-3 lead. This one was assisted by senior Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario), who sped into the offensive zone down the right wing and skated behind the net. He fed Pitera at the top of the left faceoff circle who then whistled a shot past Abric for the goal.

Army would tie the game 4-4 at the 6:20 mark with a goal by Reese Farrell. That was the final goal of regulation.

Army led 2-0 after just 3:24 of the 1st period on goals by John Keranen and John Driscoll. But before the end of the period Bentley pulled one back when Niemo scored at the 14:21 mark, with the assists by Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.) and Stephen Castagna (North Vancouver, B.C.).

Army went ahead 3-1 at 6:19 of the 2nd period with a power play goal by Joey Baez. But Bentley scored two in a row before the 2nd frame ended, from Scott and Pitera.

Scott scored off a rocket from the left faceoff dot at 10:19 after taking a pass from Niemo to make the score 3-2. That preceded Pitera's first goal of the night that tied the game 3-3.

Freshman goalie Connor Hasley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) made 31 saves to earn the win in goal.
