Goals by Vanroboys and Toale Lead Bentley Past AIC 4-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) scored two goals and senior defenseman Hunter Toale (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored the eventual game-winner in the third period as Bentley went on the road and defeated AIC 4-3 on Wednesday night.

With the Falcons leading 3-2 early in the third period, Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.) played the puck from the goal line in the offensive zone back to Toale in front of the  blue line. Toale was open and stepped into the shot allowing him to blast it bast AIC goalie Jarrett Fiske.

AIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal just 34 seconds into the game by Brett Rylance. But that early lead was quickly erased two minutes later when defenseman Tanner Main (Welland, Ontario) lit the lamp with a slap shot from above the right faceoff circle that beat Fiske to the stick side.

Later in the period Vanroboys scored twice in the span of 94 seconds. His first goal at the 14:58 mark came after defenseman Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C.) maneuvered around the defense and dropped a pass off to Vanroboys who then wristed a shot over Fiske's glove in the slot.

The second goal came on the power play with a backhander in front of the crease to give Bentley a 3-1 lead.

AIC scored the only goal of the second period from Oscar Geschwind on the power play at 12:34, but it could have been more if not for a highlight reel glove save by Falcons goalie Connor Hasley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) on a shot by Dustin Manz.

Leading 3-2 in the third period, Toale gave Bentley a two-goal cushion with his second tally of the season.

AIC cut into the lead with a goal by Brett Rylance at the 6:14 mark but Bentley held on the rest of the way. Fiske was out and the extra-attacker on for the Yellow Jackets for the final 1:01 of the game.

These teams will play again on Friday night when the series shifts to Bentley Arena.
