Bentley Tops Northeastern 3-1 Behind Grabko, Three Different Goal Scorers

WALTHAM, Mass. – Nicholas Grabko (Channahon, Illinois) made 34 saves and three different players found the back of the net as Bentley scored a 3-1 victory at home over Northeastern on Friday night.

Senior Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.), who played in his 100th career game, opened the scoring just 1:34 into the game to give Bentley an early 1-0 lead.

Freshman Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) scored at 6:05 of the 1st period. Freshman defenseman Ryan Nause (Riverview, N.B.) helped put the game away with his first career goal at 7:53 of the 3rd period.

The Falcons have now beaten two Hockey East teams this season after a 5-1 victory over Maine back in October.

Gosiewski's goal came on the power play. Josh Latta (West Vancouver, B.C.) ripped a shot from the point that NU goalie Devon Levi made a pad save on, but Gosiewski was there in front of the net to score off the rebound.

Niemo's goal just under five minutes later gave Bentley a 2-0 lead and came off a faceoff win in the offensive zone by Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario).

Grabko made 11 saves in the first period despite the Huskies getting on the board with a goal by Gunnarwolfe Fontaine at 11:24 of the period.

Bentley outshot the Huskies 13-7 in the second period but neither team scored, so the Falcons went into the final period still leading 2-1.

Bentley came up with two big penalty kills in between the goal by Nause. They killed off a power play that began at the 5:12 mark, then just 41 seconds after that penalty expired, Nause scored off a nice feed by Gosiewski to make it a 3-1 game.

The Falcons then killed off another penalty that began just over a minute after Nause's goal to preserve the 3-1 lead.

They also withstood the final 1:01 of the game with Northeastern having an extra-attacker on the ice.

Grabko made 16 saves in the third period to finish with 34 on the night.
