Bentley Falls to AIC in Series Finale; Upson Gets First NCAA Goal

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley dropped a 5-1 decision to American International on Friday night at Bentley Arena in the team's final game of the first half of the season.

The Falcons had a 29-27 edge in shots. That included hitting the post twice in the first period with shots by Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.) and defenseman Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C.).

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by left wing Timofei Khokhlachev at 3:35 of the 1st period. But Bentley had an 8-6 edge in shots in the first period.

AIC went up 2-0, 36 seconds into the second period on a goal by left wing Alex Malinowski. And they added to the lead with a tally by Aaron Grounds at 5:19 of the 2nd after he tipped in a shot by Oscar Geschwind.

Bentley's Ryan Upson (West Vancouver, B.C.) scored his first NCAA goal at 16:17 of the 3rd period. The goal by the freshman made it a 4-1 game.

Freshman defenseman Seth Bernard-Docker (Canmore, Alberta) had the puck along the left boards and fed it to defenseman Pat Lawn (Waltham, Mass.) on the blue line. Lawn put a shot on net that Upson tipped in past AIC goalie Jarrett Fiske in front of the net.

The assist was the first NCAA point for Waltham native Lawn.

The Falcons have now closed out the first half of their season. They will be back on the ice on Dec. 30 at home against Northeastern.
