Army West Point Pulls Away Late in 5-2 Win over Bentley

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point scored two goals in the final 5:15 to pull away late in a 5-2 victory over Bentley University on Saturday night.

With the game tied 2-2 just prior to the midpoint of the third period, Army's Joey Baez scored his second goal of the night to put the Black Knights in front with a power play goal.

Then with just over five minutes remaining, Army took a two goal after an individual effort by Eric Huss, who gave himself space with a pass off the wall to break into the offensive zone for a goal on the near side.

Bentley went on the power play with 2:25 remaining after a tripping penalty on Army, and an extra-attacker was sent on for a six-on-four advantage. But Army was able to get an empty-net goal from Jake Felker with a shot from center ice to make the score 5-2.

The Falcons had taken a 1-0 lead at 10:48 of the first period on Dylan Pitera's (Culver, Indiana) fifth goal of the season. Pitera intercepted a pass in Army's offensive zone and pushed the puck ahead to Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario). That started a two-on-one that Pitera finished off from just below the right face-off circle.

Bentley held that lead until late in the 2nd period when Army scored twice in 40 seconds. The goals came from Baez on the power play and Patrick Smyth at the 17:02 mark.

But just 24 seconds before the end of the period, Bentley tied the score when senior Matt Gosiewski tipped in a shot in front of the net that came from defenseman Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C.)

Bentley outshot Army 30-26 on the night.

The team will be back in action on Friday at 4:05 pm at Sacred Heart to open a series.
