Bentley Defeats Maine 5-1 Behind Hasley and Four Different Goal Scores

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman goalie Connor Hasley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) made 33 saves to earn his first NCAA win to help lead Bentley to a 5-1 victory over Maine in the Falcons' home opener on Saturday night.

Sophomore Harrison Scott (San Jose, Calif.) scored twice and three players netted their first goals as Falcons.

Senior Josh Latta (West Vancouver, B.C.), a transfer from UMass-Lowell, scored at 3:54 of the 2nd period. Freshman Stephen Castagna (North Vancouver, B.C.) scored at 16:20 of the 2nd and classmate Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vermont) lit the lamp at 17:14 of the 3rd.

After Maine took an early 1-0 lead, Scott tied the game at 10:18 of the 1st after he tipped in a shot from Ethan Harrison (Plano, Texas) that had been saved.

The score was 1-1 after the first, but the Falcons went to work in the 2nd frame and outscored the Black Bears 3-0.

Latta scored 3:54 into the period for a 2-1 lead. A shot from the top of the circle by Castagna was saved but Latta was there on the doorstep to score.

Bentley then scored twice in less than two minutes for a 4-1 lead late in the period. Scott scored his second of the night with a backhand inside the right faceoff circle at 14:51. Castagna then followed with a laser of a shot off a two-on-one from the top inside of the right circle.

Hasley made 15 saves in the 3rd period and Niemo finished the game off with an empty net goal with 3:36 remaining.

Bentley improved to 1-2 with the win. They will be back in action on Thursday to open a series at Ohio State.
