LEWISTON, N.Y. – Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) and Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) scored goals, but Bentley dropped a 3-2 decision to Niagara on Saturday at Dwyer Arena.
Vanrobyos scored just 55 seconds into the game to give Bentley a 1-0 lead. Gosiewski had control of the puck in the neutral zone and slid a pass ahead to Vanroboys in the offensive zone. Vanroboys split two Niagara defenders and skated around the goal to beat Niagara's Chad Veltri with a wraparound for his 4th goal of the season.
The Falcons still led 1-0 at the end of the 1st period but Niagara scored three times in the second frame to jump in front 3-1.
Bentley was able to cut the deficit to 3-2 when Gosiewski netted his 7th of the season at 5:03 of the 3rd period. Defenseman Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta) fed a pass from the right corner of the blue line out to grad student defenseman Matt Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.) on the point. Lombardozzi put a shot on goal that went wide of the net and bounced off the boards to Gosiewski in front of the net, who beat Veltri from a tight angle for the goal.
That however was the final goal of the game. Niagara was able to withstand the final 1:44 with Bentley's extra-attacker on the ice.
The Falcons' records fell to 12-13-1 overall and 10-9-1 in Atlantic Hockey. Niagara improved to 10-16-2 overall and 9-9-2 Atlantic Hockey.
The next games are on Thursday and Friday at Sacred Heart.
