Bentley and RIT End Series with 3-3 Draw, Tigers Win Shootout

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and RIT played to a 3-3 draw on Sunday afternoon at Bentley Arena, but the Tigers earned an extra point by winning the shootout.

Regulation ended tied 3-3 and neither team could find a goal in the five minute, three-on-three overtime to send the game to a shootout.

Both goalies, Bentley's Evan DeBrouwer (Blenheim, Ontario) and RIT's Kolby Matthews made saves in the first two rounds of the shootout. RIT's Jake Joffe scored in the third round for the Tigers, and Matthews came up with a save on Bentley's attempt to give them the shootout win.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead on junior Lucas Vanroboys' (Thamesville, Ontario) 3rd goal of the season at 10:53 of the first period. Vanroboys scored off a rebound in front of the net after a shot from the corner by Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.).

RIT tied the game with a power play goal at 4:05 of the 2nd period, but just over a minute later Bentley took the lead back on Matt Lombardozzi's (Leominster, Mass.) 7th power play goal of the season. He scored with a shot from above the face-off circles after taking a pass from Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.).

Bentley then made it 3-1 at the 15:40 mark of the 2nd on freshman Harrison Scott's (San Jose, Calif.) second goal of the weekend. A long pass from the defensive zone by Lombardozzi over the top of RIT's defense gave Scott the look on goal which he converted past Matthews.

RIT though was able to tie the game with two goals in the 3rd period, from Jake Hamacher and Andrew Rinaldi.

Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record moved to 10-7-1 for 31 points, while RIT's AHA record went to 8-6-3.

The Falcons' next series is at Niagara next Friday and Saturday.
