Bentley Earns Series Split with 4-3 Victory over Sacred Heart

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley earned a series split with Sacred Heart with a 4-3 victory over the Pioneers on Saturday night at Bentley Arena.

The Falcons scored three goals in the decisive 2nd period to take a 4-2 lead into the final 20 minutes. SHU scored a power play goal at 8:15 of the 3rd to make it a one goal game. But the Falcons held tough and saw out the remaining time to secure the win. SHU pulled goalie Luke Lush with 1:24 remaining but Bentley stood strong against the extra-attacker.

Bentley's grad student goalie Evan DeBrouwer (Blenheim, Ontario) made 25 saves to earn the victory.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period. SHU struck first with a goal by Austin Magera, but grad student Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) responded with a power play goal with just 1:32 remaining in the period, his first goal of the season.

Bentley then surged ahead with three goals in the 2nd period, from seniors Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta), Dylan Pitera (Culver, Indiana) and junior Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.).

Orysiuk's goal, his 3rd of the season, came at 2:17 of the 2nd with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle after freshman Harrison Scott (San Jose, Calif.) gained possession in the neutral zone.

Pitera made it 3-1 at 11:27 with his 5th goal of the year. The goal came off a snap shot, in between and above the face-off circles and past the glove of SHU goalie Justin Robbins. Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) had the assists.

It became 4-1 just under two minutes later on Linell's 4th goal of the year. Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) skated into the zone with speed down the left wing and around the net. He spotted Linell in front for a one-timer goal.

SHU pulled one back with 1:28 remaining in the period from defenseman Andrius Kulbis-Marino to make it a 4-2 game heading into the final period.

SHU got the power play goal from Jaworski to cut it to a one goal game, but DeBrouwer, eight saves in the 3rd period, and the rest of the Falcons prevented the tying goal.

Bentley improved to 9-5 in Atlantic Hockey play with the win and 11-9 overall. SHU fell to 8-9-3 and 6-6-2 overall.
