Bentley Blanks Army West Point 5-0 To Complete Series Sweep

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student goalie Evan DeBrouwer (Blenheim, Ontario) made 25 saves to help lead the Bentley hockey team to a 5-0 shut out victory over Army West Point on Saturday to complete the series sweep.

The Falcons won Friday's series opener 3-1 over Army West Point, and have now won three games in a row overall. They improved to 6-4 in Atlantic Hockey games and 8-7 overall.

DeBrouwer, who has been in goal for all three wins during the streak, helped the Falcons post a 7-7 night on the penalty kill. He now has a .947 save percentage and 1.56 goals against average in five games this season.

Freshman forward Danny Pearson (Vancouver, B.C.) scored his first two NCAA goals to lead the Falcons offense.

He opened the scoring with a goal at the 9:16 mark of the 1st period after he finished off a give-and-go with senior Brendan Walkom (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Just seven seconds later, off winning the ensuring faceoff, senior defenseman Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta) scored his second goal of the weekend to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Pearson's 2nd goal of the night, at 6:36 of the 2nd period, gave Bentley a 3-0 lead and was a highlight reel goal where he deked around an Army defender and beat goaltender Gavin Abric to his glove side. Walkom and captain Ethan Roswell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) had the assists.

Less than two minutes later, grad student Collin Rutherford (Tonawanda, N.Y.) made it 4-0 with his third goal of the season. Rutherford started with the puck to the right of Abric, skated behind the net and circled through the offensive zone before he roofed a shot over Abric's glove for a power play goal at 8:02.

Junior Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.) scored Bentley's 5th goal of the night at 13:40, his second goal of the season.

Bentley next play Mercyhurst at home for its final games of the semester on Dec. 3 and 4.
