Gosiewski’s OT Goal Gives Bentley 2-1 Road Win over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) scored 56 seconds into overtime to give the Bentley hockey team a 2-1 victory over American International on Friday afternoon at the Mass Mutual Center.

With the game tied 1-1 after 60 minutes the game headed to the five minute, 3-on-3 overtime. But the Falcons needed less than a minute to secure the win after Gosiewski netted his second goal of the afternoon.

After Falcons goalie Evan DeBrouwer (Blenheim, Ontario) made save from close range on AIC's Luka Maver, Bentley cleared the puck from in front of the net to Collin Rutherford (Tonawanda, N.Y.) down the left wing.

Rutherford skated into the neutral zone and spotted Gosiewski with a pass as he streaked down the right-hand side and into the offensive zone. That left Gosiewski one-on-one with AIC goalie Alec Calvaruso and Gosiewski didn't miss with a low shot that beat Calvaruso to his stick side.

The goal was Gosiewski's 5th of the season, and his second career overtime winning goal. His first OT winner came last season at Sacred Heart.

Earlier in the game, Gosiewski scored at 18:13 of the 1st period to give Bentley a 1-0 lead. Freshmen Danny Pearson (Vancouver, B.C.) and Tanner Main (Welland, Ontario) had the assists. Pearson collected the rebound behind the net from a shot by Main and found Gosiewski in front of the net.

AIC tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal from defenseman Brett Callahan at 12:23 of the 2nd period.

That was the only time AIC got one past DeBrouwer, however. The graduate student goalie made a number of big saves to earn his first win in a Bentley uniform. He finished the day with 30 saves.

The win improved Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record to 4-4 and its overall record to 6-7. They will next be in action after Thanksgiving, with a pair of home games on Nov. 26 and 27 against Army West Point.
