Gosiewski, Grande Help Lead Bentley Past Air Force, 5-4

USAFA, Colo. – Junior Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) scored two goals and goalie Jason Grande (West Chester, Pa.) made 38 saves to help lead Bentley past Air Force 5-4 on Saturday night at Cadet Ice Arena. The win ensures Bentley comes home with a series split.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Gosiewski scored his first goal of the game at the 7:17 mark.

Towards the end of the period the Falcons' penalty kill came up huge to help preserve the lead. They killed off a two-man advantage for Air Force that lasted for 54 seconds until Air Force took a penalty.

After Bentley's first penalty expired and the teams were skating 4-on-4, sophomore Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored his 3rd goal of the season with 11 seconds left in the period for a 2-0 lead. Defenseman Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) flung the puck from all the way behind Grande's net to Kodsi in the neutral zone. Kodsi then skated into the offensive zone with space and beat Air Force goalie Alex Schilling with a shot from just below the right face-off dot.

Bentley then took a 3-0 lead in the second period when Gosiewski scored his second of the game and third of the season as the Falcons took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play.

Gosiewski had an initial shot on goal that was saved by Schilling and Zuffante collected the rebound in the left corner. Zuffante then fed Gosiewski in the high slot, who then beat Schilling with a shot to the stick side for the goal at 5:39.

After an Air Force goal by Parker Brown made it a 3-1 game, Bentley defenseman Matt Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.) scored on the power play at the 13:01 mark. Lombardozzi pounced on a loose puck and blasted a slap shot past Schilling to give Bentley a 4-1 lead.

That was the fourth straight game Lombardozzi has scored a goal.

The lead became 5-1 when Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) scored 4:35 into the 3rd period. Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) made a nice play to steal the puck off an Air Force player and feed a pass to Vanroboys, who then deked around Schilling for his second goal of the year.

Air Force chipped away at the lead with two quick goals by Will Gavin and Brian Adams to make it a 5-3 game with 8:57 remaining.

Air Force pulled Schilling with 3:13 left, and the move paid off as Clayton Cosentino scored an extra-attacker goal with 2:38 remaining to make it 5-4.

Schilling stayed on the bench after the goal, but Bentley held firm as Grande made three saves in the final two-plus minutes and the Falcons defense blocked several shots.

The win evened Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record to 3-3 on the season and improved its overall record to 5-6. The team's next series will take place on Thursday and Friday at American International.
