Bentley falls to Army West Point in Overtime, 3-2

Waltham, Mass. – Senior Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) scored two goals, but Army West Point came away with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Bentley University hockey team on Friday night.

Santerno scored goals late in the 1st period and midway through the 2nd period to give Bentley a 2-0 lead. But Army chipped away with two power play goals, then got the winning goal from Daniel Haider in the 3 on 3 overtime with just under one minute to play to give the visitors a 3-2 victory.

Santerno's 3rd goal of the season came with 3:06 left in the first period to give Bentley a 1-0 lead. Senior Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) set the goal up by chasing the puck down behind the Army net, then winning a battle for the puck along the boards to feed a pass to Santerno in the left face-off circle. Santerno then got off a low wrist shot that beat Army's goalie Trevin Kozlowski to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.

Bentley's freshman goalie Nicholas Grabko (Channahon, Ill.) was sharp, and busy in the first period with 11 saves.

Bentley then made it 2-0 when Santerno scored his second of the night and fourth of the season at 10:28 of the 2nd period. Sophomore Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) fed a pass from along the boards to Zuffante on the edge of the left face-off circle. A quick pass followed to Santerno, who scored with a nifty turnaround backhand shot to make it 2-0.

Army though began to chip away with a power play goal by center Eric Butte with 1:06 left in the 2nd period. The tying goal then came from right wing Colin Bilek with 8:10 left in the 3rd period after an official's review.

The winning goal for Army, from Haider in overtime, came after a long pass in the defensive zone by defenseman Thomas Farrell.

Bentley will look to bounce back tomorrow when the series shifts to West Point. The game gets underway at 7:05 pm from Tate Rink.
