Bentley Drops Series Finale to Sacred Heart 4-2

Bridgeport, Conn. – Junior Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.) and senior Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored goals for Bentley University, but the Falcons dropped the finale of their home and home series with Sacred Heart on Friday night, 4-2.

Neither team scored in the 1st period and Bentley defensively limited the Pioneers to just three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes.

The first goal of the game went to Sacred Heart, off the stick of left wing Todd Goehring, at the 6:58 mark of the 2nd period.

The teams battled for the next nine minutes without a goal until Bentley was able to tie the game with a power play goal by Pitera. The goal came after senior Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) tracked the puck down in the defensive zone and brought into the neutral zone. He then fired a pass to Pitera to free him for a break on goal, and a quick shot to the stick side of SHU goalie Josh Benson tied the game 1-1.

Just 40 seconds later through, Sacred Heart took the lead back with a goal by Braeden Tuck, after he tipped in a shot from defenseman Patrick Dawson that deflected off the boards.

In the 3rd period, SHU added to its lead with a power play goal from center Austin Magera 3:54 into the period. SHU added an empty net goal with 1:55 remaining in the game, before Hamblet scored for Bentley with 51 seconds left. His 4th goal of the year was assisted by Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) and Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta).

After completing a stretch of four games in six days, Bentley is next scheduled to be back on the ice on the weekend of Feb. 12-13 with a home and home series against Army West Point.
