Bentley Falls to Sacred Heart 4-0

Waltham, Mass. – Visiting Sacred Heart University came away with a 4-0 victory over the Bentley University hockey team on Thursday night.

Playing their third game in five days, the Falcons outshot Sacred Heart 31-26 on the night, but could not get one past junior goalie Josh Benson.

Sacred Heart scored two goals in the first period, and added one each in the second and third periods.

Junior forward Austin Magera gave SHU a 1-0 4:46 into the game with a seeing eye, bouncing shot from the left point that got through traffic in front of the net for an early lead.

Senior Marc Johnstone then gave SHU a 2-0 lead at the 13:57 mark of the 1st period. Junior Ryan Steele helped set the goal up with a drive in on net, followed by a quick pass across to Johnstone on the right wing for the goal.

Bentley outshot the Pioneers 11-8 in the first, but Benson turned them each away.

SHU added to its lead in the 2nd period with a power play goal by right winger Marcel Godbout at the 8:04 mark. A cross-ice pass from the point by Braeden Tuck to Godbout in the left face-off circle led to the goal.

Sacred Heart added an empty net goal by Kevin Lombardi at the 17:24 mark of the 3rd period.

Bentley will look to bounce back tomorrow night when they series shifts to the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. Face-off is set for 5:05 pm.
