Bentley Tops Air Force 6-3 as Soderquist Notches 250th Career Win, Santerno 100th Career Point

Waltham, Mass. – The Bentley University Falcons earned a 6-3 victory over the Air Force Falcons on a milestone Sunday night at Bentley Arena, as head coach Ryan Soderquist notched his 250th career win, and senior Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) his 100th career point.

Soderquist, a Bentley alum who is the hockey program's all-time leader in scoring as well, is already the program's all-time leader in wins.

Santerno had three assists to reach 100 points for his career, to become the 13th player in the program's Division I history to reach that milestone. It's the second straight game he's had three assists.

Six different players had goals on the night for Bentley, and 10 different players had at least one point.

Sophomore Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) and senior Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) bookended the first period with goals. Gosiewski scored just 47 seconds into the game to give Bentley a 1-0 lead, and Hamblet lit the lamp with 53 seconds left to give Bentley a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd period.

Neither team scored in the 2nd period, with Bentley's freshman goalie Nicholas Grabko (Channahon, Ill.) turning away 10 Air Force shots, to keep the score a 2-0 for the home team going into the 3rd period.

That set the stage for a wild 3rd period as the teams combined for seven goals. Bentley scored four of them, off the sticks defenseman Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.), Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.), Brendan Walkom (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario).

The goals by Bavaro and Pitera, both on the power play, came in the opening 1:28 of the 3rd period to give Bentley a 4-0 lead.

Air Force made it a two goal game with tallies by Jake Levin at 2:19 and Shawn Knowlton at 10:28. But Walkom's goal, his second game in a row with a goal, effectively iced the game with 6:10 remaining for a 5-2 lead.

Novak scored an empty-net goal, his 6th goal of the season, to put a cap on a three-point night for him.

Grabko finished the night with 22 saves to earn the win in goal for Bentley.

Bentley will go for the sweep tomorrow when they take on Air Force in the second game of the series. That is a 3:05 pm start, moved up from 5:05 pm.
