Bentley Skates Past Holy Cross 5-2; Three Players Tally Multiple Points

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University skated past Holy Cross 5-2 on Tuesday night behind a powerful offensive showing that saw four different players record multiple points.

Junior Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) scored two goals in the first period as the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Senior Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) had three assists, and Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) had two.

Leading 3-1 in the 3rd period, Bentley scored two power play goals just over a minute apart to put the game away. The goals came off the stick of junior defenseman Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta) and sophomore Matt Gosiewski (Wilton Conn.), at the 7:47 and 8:54 marks.

The Falcons got off to a fast start with two goals by Novak just 1:18 apart early in the 1st period. Santerno and defenseman AJ Villella (Davie, Fla.) had the assists on the first goal at 4:30, then just 1:18 later Santerno and senior Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) helped set the goal up.

The goals were Novak's 4th and 5th of the season.

The Falcons extended their lead to 3-0 at 4:27 of the 2nd period on a goal by junior Brendan Walkom (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Zuffante won a face-off in the offensive zone to give Bentley possession, and a pass to Walkom down low saw the junior slide the puck past Erik Gordon for a 3-0 Bentley lead.

Holy Cross pulled a goal back with a power play at 10:34 of the 2nd, but Bentley led 3-1 going into the final period.

In the 3rd, Bentley scored two power play goals in quick succession to put the game away. Orysiuk fired in a shot from the right face-off circle that banged in off the cross bar for a 4-1 lead at the 7:47 mark. Just over a minute later, Santerno and freshman Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) set up a goal by Matt Gosiewski (Wilton Conn.) to make it 5-1. The goal was Gosiewski's first of the season, and 5th point of the year.

Falcons freshman goalie Nicholas Grabko (Channahon, Il.) made 22 saves to earn the win, with seven saves in the first and second periods and eight in the third period.
