PREVIEW: Bentley Takes to the Road for Wednesday Night Matchup at Holy Cross

PREVIEW: Bentley Takes to the Road for Wednesday Night Matchup at Holy Cross

MATCHUP: The Bentley University hockey team will play its fourth game of the season on Wednesday night when they take to the road for a matchup with Atlantic Hockey rival Holy Cross. The puck drops at 6:00 pm from the Hart Center.

This will be Bentley's 4th game in nine days since the season opened on Dec. 1 against the same Holy Cross team. In that tightly contested game at Bentley Arena, the Crusaders emerged with a 2-1 win in overtime.

Both teams were in action last weekend and both teams split their series. Bentley won at home over Army West Point 4-2 on Friday night, but settled for a series split after the Black Knights won a hard-fought, 2-0 decision the following night in West Point.

Holy Cross played Sacred Heart twice at home last weekend. They dropped the first game 2-1 on Friday night, but doubled up the Pioneers 6-3 on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT: Bentley scored a 4-2 win over Army West Point on Friday night behind two goals from senior Michael Zuffante, and one each from freshmen defensemen Matt Clark and Drew Bavaro. Zuffante lit the lamp in the 1st and 2nd periods, while Clark and Bavaro each scored their first career goals in the 2nd period.

Freshman goalie Nicholas Grabko earned his first career win with a 32 save effort.

One night later down in West Point, Grabko played well again and stopped 20 of 21 shots faced. But the Falcons dropped a close one, 2-0.

OFF TO A STRONG START: It's been a strong start to Grabko's career in a Bentley uniform. The native of Channahon, Illinois, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago, has started all three of Bentley's games so far. He has a .940 save percentage and a 1.66 goals against average, both of which are in the top-three in Atlantic Hockey.

RECENT HISTORY: Bentley has won three games in a row at Holy Cross and is unbeaten in the last four outings at the Hart Center. The Falcons won both games in that building last season, 3-2 on Nov. 29, 2019 and 6-2 on Feb. 29.

In the 3-2 win, Jakov Novak scored the game-winning goal with 6:22 left in the 3rd period to break a 2-2 tie. Brendan Hamblet netted a short-handed goal in the 2nd period, and goaltender Fraser Kirk made 21 saves to earn the win.

In the 6-2 victory, Hamblet scored two goals to pace the offense, and defenseman Marcus Walter also lit the lamp.

UP NEXT: Bentley will be off this weekend, but will return to the ice on Friday, Dec. 18 to host AIC in the first game of a home-and-home series. The teams will play at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield on day later.
