Bentley Nearly Scores Tying Goal Late in 2-1 Defeat to AIC

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley nearly scored the tying goal with under 10 seconds left but a tipped shot by Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) hit the post, and AIC held on for a 2-1 victory over the Falcons on Saturday at Bentley Arena.

Bentley trailed by a goal and had an extra attacker on the ice as they pushed for the tying goal. It nearly came when senior defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) put a shot on net from the point. Garin got his stick on it in front of the net, and while it initially appeared that he scored, the puck hit the post and stayed out.

A review confirmed the decision, and AIC held on for the final nine seconds to secure the 2-1 win.

Bentley outshot AIC for the second straight night, this time 33-22, but AIC's Stefano Durante came up with 32 saves. Bentley's Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 20 stops.

The Yellow Jackets scored the game's first goal, on the power play at 15:13 of the 1st period. Center Hugo Reinhardt tipped in a shot that came from the point by defenseman Brennan Kapcheck.

In the 2nd period, Bentley tied it with a power play goal of its own. Freshman Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) scored his 8th goal of the season at 9:33, with Hunter Toale (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Luke Santerno (Smithers B.C.) on the assists. The goal came off a wrist shot that beat Durante below his glove.

AIC though took the lead back about six minutes later. Defenseman Janis Jaks scored on the power play with a blast from the point to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Neither team scored in the 3rd period and that is how the game ended.

Bentley (8-13-3, 6-11-2) will look to bounce back next weekend when they go on the road to visit Mercyhurst.
