Argue’s Shutout Helps Bentley Defeat Air Force 2-0

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Senior goalie Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba) posted a shutout with 28 saves as Bentley began the final series at the JAR with a 2-0 victory over Air Force on Friday night.

Bentley received goals from freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) in the second period, and an empty-net goal from Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill) with 1:13 remaining in the third period to finish the game off.

The Falcons, who largely controlled the game and kept Air Force's scoring chances to a minimum, have now four games in a row behind Argue's shutout.

After a scoreless first period where Air Force had a 10-9 edge in shots, Bentley dominated the second period with a 14-8 advantage in shots and several good scoring chances.

It was Santerno potting his 10th goal of the season 2:42 into the period that gave Bentley a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) got the goal started with a shot from above the right face-off circle that was saved Air Force goalie Billy Christopoulos. Santerno then got a rebound shot that was saved by Christopoulos, but Santerno got a second crack at it and jammed the puck past Christopoulos for the goal.

Bentley had a good chance later in the period to take a 2-0 lead with a shot from Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc.) in the slot, but clanged off the post.

Bentley was able to hold onto the lead throughout the third period. With 1:18 remaining, Christopoulos headed to the bench for an extra-attacker, but just seconds after, Kauppila scored from center ice for a 2-0 Bentley lead to put the game away.

Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record improved to 8-11-5 on the season with the win. They'll play their final game at the JAR tomorrow night at 5:05.
