Canisius Takes Series Opener from Bentley 5-1

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius took the first game of its weekend series from Bentley with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Falcons on Friday night at the HarborCenter.

Canisius had five different goal scorers on the night. Sophomore forward Nick Hutchison was named the game's first star with one goal and one assist on the night.

Both teams came out firing, and both claimed a goal in the opening minutes. Canisius got on the board first, just 42 seconds into the game on a power play goal from freshman Grant Meyer. But shortly after the goal, Canisius took a penalty at 2:07, and the Falcons cashed in at 3:26 from freshman Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) to tie the score. Zuffante took a pass from defenseman Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia) in the slot, and let rip a low shot that got under the pads of Canisius goalie Daniel Urbani for his second goal of the season.

Canisius struck for another early goal to open the second period. Hutchison found the back of the net 1:06 into the period to put the hosts up 2-1. The Griffs tacked on two more goals before the period was over, including a tally from junior Matt McLeod with 35 seconds left to take them into the locker room up 4-1.

Urbanie turned away 19 shots to claim his third win of the season, while Bentley's Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) stopped 27 shots.

Bentley will look to bounce back and earn the series split tomorrow with a 4:35 start time.
