WATERTOWN, Mass. – Power play goals by Taylor Best and Jack Riley were enough to lift Mercyhurst to a 2-0 victory over Bentley in Atlantic Hockey action at the JAR on Saturday night.

The win means the two teams split this weekend series after Bentley won Friday night's opener 4-3.

Lakers senior goalie Brandon Wildung made 24 saves for the shutout, while his counterpart, Bentley's Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba) ,made 28 saves in another good performance between the pipes.

One night after they went 3-5 on the power play, it was Bentley's missed chances on the power play tonight where they went 0-7 that played a part in the defeat. They had three power play chances in the 3^rd period, two of which came in the final 3:40.

The game was scoreless until well into the 2^nd period, when Best scored off a scramble in front of the net with just 15 seconds remaining in the period. Best had an initial shot on goal saved by Argue, and the ensuing rebound resulted in a fight for the puck in front of the net that Best got his stick on for the goal. The play was reviewed by the officials, but was upheld, and the Lakers went into the intermission up 1-0.

In a mostly even 3^rd period, Bentley had a slight 8-7 edge in shots. Mercyhurst went on the power play with 1:40 remaining in the game, which made it difficult for Argue to head for the bench in favor of the extra attacker. He was finally able to head off inside the final 10 seconds, but Bentley was unable to mount a final rush, and Riley scored just before the final buzzer for the 2-0 final score.

After the series split, Bentley's records go to 1-3-2 overall and in Atlantic Hockey games. They start a five game road trip next weekend when they open a series at Niagara.
