Kauppila Scores Twice in Bentley’s 3-3 Tie with AIC

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore center Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill.) scored two goals, including the tying goal with 2:04 left in regulation, as Bentley and AIC played to a 3-3 tie in the Falcons' season-opener at the JAR on Tuesday night.

Up until Kauppila's goal, all five goals scored by both teams were on the power play. His even-strength goal, a rocket to the top shelf, tied the game up 3-3.

Bentley goalie Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba) made 33 saves, including several crucial saves in overtime to preserve the tie.

Kauppila scored Bentley's first goal of the season just 1:43 into the game on the power play, after he took a feed from Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) from the right face-off circle on the near side of the goal and finished around AIC goalie Zack Skog's pads.

The Yellow Jackets scored the next two goals from defenseman Brennan Kapcheck at 5:50 of the first period, and left wing Blake Christensen at 5:56 of the 2nd period.

With just seven seconds left in the 2nd period, sophomore Jonathan Desbiens tied things up 2-2 with a tough angled shot from the right wing, almost parallel to the post. The goal came after a 5-on-3 advantage had just expired, but Desbiens was able to score with Bentley still on a power play.

AIC took the lead right back just 3:17 into the third period with another power play goal, this time from center Shawn McBride. In the middle of the 3rd period, the Falcons saw a 5-on-3 advantage go by the boards that lasted 1:39.

Kauppila's heroics though helped Bentley earn a point on its opening night.

With the first game in the books, Bentley is now off until Oct. 20, when they open a series at Holy Cross.
