Bentley Places 20 Student-Athletes on Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University is once again well represented on the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team. The Falcons had 20 student-athletes receive All-Academic recognition, among the highest in the conference, for the 2016-17 season.

To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an athlete must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which his team was actively competing.

Two former Falcons who graduated in May, Max French (West Kelowna, B.C.) and defenseman Mike Berry (Edmonton, Alberta), capped their careers by being named All-Academic for a fourth straight time, each season they were in a Bentley uniform.

Three student-athletes who completed their junior seasons are now 3-3 in All-Academic nods in their college careers; goaltender Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) and forwards Andrew McDonald (New Brighton, Minn./Fargo Force) and Ryan McMurphy (Broken Arrow, Okla./Tri-City Storm).

Seven Falcons earned All-Academic honors for a second straight season. Forwards Matt Sieckhaus (St. Louis, Mo./Amarillo), Cody DePourcq (Penticton, B.C./Penticton) and Danny Kucerovy (Bethel Park, Pa./Janesville), goaltender Jake Bryniarski (Rochester, N.Y./Bay State) and defensemen Chris Buchanan (San Jose, Calif./Fargo), Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba/Portage) and Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia/Lone Star).

Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie team selection Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn./Fairbanks) was among nine student-athletes to be named All-Academic for the first time. He's joined by fellow forwards Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatchee), Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc./Janesville), Jake Kauppila (Gurnee, Ill./Trail) and Matt Riggleman (Milford, Mich./Sioux Falls).

Defensemen Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass./Jersey Hitmen) and Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba/Portage) and goaltender Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario/Chilliwack) earned All-Academic honors as well for their freshmen seasons.
